Of all the Siesta Key
restaurants, Anna's Deli is the oldest. It was founded in
1971 and has had several locations on the Key throughout the years.
Its newest location is in a strip plaza
right in the middle
of the Village. One of the reasons for its constant success
is there signature sandwich the Surfer.
Now
I must
admit that until last year I didn't know about this famous sandwich.
But once I told my wife about this site she insisted we go
get one of these magical delights.

Well
to me a
sandwich with Ham, Turkey, swiss, cucumber and secret sauce didn't
sound too special. (By the way, I don't like cucumbers at
all.) But for the sake of the site I was going to try it.
I
was so wrong. The Surfer is the best cold sandwich I have
ever had. The bread is soft and the sauce is tangy. Actually
the sauce is so good I didn't even mind the cucumbers. Thats
right, I ate a cucumber.
On top of that their
sandwiches are huge. These are the real deal. My
wife and I split one with our three year old. There was
enough for all of us and then some.
I am a convert
now. The only downside is no frozen drinks. For
that you will have to walk on down to the
Daiquiri
Deck.
But other than that, Anna's Deli is a winner for a quick
bite.
